You’ve finally sat down and made up your mind. This is it. This is the summer you knock everyone’s socks off when you finally take your shirt off on the beach. People are going to sit and stare (in a good way) in awe and envy of your fantastic, sweet set of six-pack abs.
And, to your benefit, you know that you’re going to have to work for it. None of this take a phony-baloney weight loss pill stuff(which never works). So, now that you’ve come to the point where you want to start kicking in with some serious abs exercises, just what the heck are you supposed to do?
Guidelines For Abs Exercises
There’s a lot to it, but really, the most important thing is the will and resolve to include this in your lifestyle. I mean, for the long haul. The first mistake people make when they set up any exercise routine is to think TOO big, too fast. Soon enough, your initial interest and energy are going to fade, and you’ll be tempted to stray and give up and go back to sitting on the couch eating Ben and Jerry’s by the carton in your spare time.
So first off, spend some time with self-reflection (yes, I know that makes me sound like some New Age freako, but pay attention). What are you REALLY going to do, day in, day out, until the end of time? If you make your abs workouts too intense, or too lengthy, you might not stick with it.
If it’s too hard… you might get sick of it. You might have a day when you’re tired, or blah, or low energy, or whatever you want to call it. If your abs exercises take too long… you may not be able to fit it into your day. Life happens, my friends. There will be days when the proverbial excrement hits the oscillating device (or fan, in simple terms). In fact, it seems in my life, there are more of those crazy days than sane days.
So, keep your abs exercises routine in line with reality. How intense are you REALLY willing to go- not just today, but six months from now, when you aren’t excited for something new anymore? How long can you REALLY spend on this- not just now that you’re making it a priority, but months from now, when the car has to get its oil changed, and the kids have to get to school, and work is pushing you to put in overtime, and whatever other nonsense the universe throws at you?
Abs Exercises Need To Be Consistent
Being consistent is more important than being intense, so this is much more important than you might think. There are a bunch of other considerations, of course. Do you have access to a gym? If not, your exercises will have to be equipment-free, or you’re going to have to buy some.
Do you have any particular trouble spots? This can dictate which particular exercises you favor over others. What’s your goals? Do you prefer to work your abs alone or in a group? If it’s the latter, you might be best off in a Pilates class or yoga class.
Finally, what else are you willing to do to augment your workouts for your abs? Diet is a big consideration, as well as other auxiliary exercises to burn away the fat obscuring those magnificent abs you’re trying so hard to perfect.
There’s a lot to it, definitely. Start with the considerations I mentioned first- how much time and effort are you REALLY willing to spend? That’s the most important guide for the rest of the way. If you feel like you need some more guidance, check out my free email mini-course on abs.
